On, October 27th, 2001, I participated in Steps For Lupus, for Make A Difference Day. I had a Terrific time!! It was so awesome to see how everyone was there to help me make a difference, from family to friends, from students to business owners, I was so totally amazed!!! I wasn't the only one who made a difference, everyone involved did!!! Thanks to everyone who helped!!!! Special Thanks to Ben Milana, my "adopted grandfather", who saw an article about me in the paper and decided he had to help me! All the money raised will go to the Dorough Lupus Foundation. Research for this disease has the possibility of helping the approximate 1.4 million people who suffer from it!!!!!
There were 4 different "Steps": Swimming at Lipscomb Pool Racing (go-carts) at Andretti Thrill Park Bowling at Brevard Brunswick Bowling Center Walking at Melbourne Square Mall There were friends, family, bowlers, business owners, members of the Bayside Swimming Bears, and others who joined me at these events! Also a raffle was held at the end with a bunch of fabulous prizes, including a phonecall from Howie D. (of the Backstreet Boys)!!!
"WE" ended up raising over $8,000!!!!!
My goal was, and still is $10,000 - and I am going to KEEP GOING until I reach that goal!!! I know that the money raised can make a difference in the life of a lupus patient and in getting a step closer to the cure!!!
I STILL NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am VERY determined to reach my goal, but I need you to help me do that! You can "Make A Difference" as well!!!! If you have not had the chance to make a donation, please check out my pledge letter. If you have made a donation, I thank you and challenge you to find two other people to also take a STEP towards a cure for Lupus!!! If you have any suggestions, please contact me!!
If everyone helped others like the way everyone helped me with my Make A Differece Day project, this world would be a much better place. Volunteering has always been important to me, even when I was in second grade, I liked to read to the kindergarten students. Sometimes, I think people just forget how important it is to volunteer and help others, and they just need a little reminder. That is what is so great about Make A Difference Day, I wish every day was like that!!! Don't you!!!!
Ta,
Jillianne :)
LUPUS AWARENESS is very important. Half of the key to finding a cure to Lupus is understanding the disease. There are so many people who have never heard of lupus, let alone know what it is. During my Make A Difference Day project I handed out LUPUS AWARENESS brochures, and I will keep passing these out, to help educate everyone about LUPUS. If you would like a brochure, just email me at the address below and I will send one to you!!!
